DAY 23 - ANTALYA

23) WEDNESDAY, 20 JULY 1977 : 292KMS. - ANTALYA

Last night we parked our camper van  overnight in front of the ruined city HIERAPOLIS .  Many campers from many European countries also camped in the same area, including Turkish tourists  since it is summer time and holiday season of Europe in general.

From DENIZLI toward the east to BURDUR, we enjoyed stunning landscape of high mountains and some exotic  appearances like desert area . Some parts of the road  are of the steep , rocky mountains and some of the hills are white . I understood that they were limestone hills with winding paths  up and down.

I saw villagers were winnowing their grains by using rice basket pouring the grains at high level  so that the rice or wheat  husks and straws blown away but the grains fall down for recovery . Women in the eastern part  started to dress a lot more in oriental style.  The most popular attire I saw seemed to be   loose fabric harem pants,  a colorful floral pleated legs together at the ankles.   Women always cover their heads  at all times when outside their houses.

In coffee shops , most of which selling tea, there were many small tables . Most customers I saw were men sitting and playing dice game, a sort of Japanese Gobang.  After  a while watching,  it seemed that   2 players threw alternately his own 2 dices and move his disk on the go board according to the value of the dices.

We passed through BURDUR and continued southward to the seaside town ANTALYA to overnight  and visit the seaside near the city ( about 10 kms. away).
